Who is Ready for Spring?
One of the things I love most about living in the midwest is the change of seasons. I realize that is shifting and at times we do not seem to get a spring or a fall. I am hopeful we will get a spring here in St. Louis this year. For me spring means planting flowers and new plants, sitting outside on our patio, taking trail hikes/walks, windows down in the car, open at home, vibrant colors, different smells, grilling out for dinner, need I go on? It is also a time that I go through my dresser and closet and get rid of things I don’t wear or that no longer fit- sort of out with the old, in with the new mentality.
Transition times such as these are a good time to check in how we are doing mentally and emotionally. Examine some important things: How are you sleeping?(Oh yeah Daylight Savings Time). Are you prioritizing sleep? How are you eating? We often examine this in the spring time as swimsuit season is creeping up. How much are you exercising?Again something else we examine as summer nears. Lastly, how are you doing with stress reduction/self care? I can not stress enough the importance of sun and Vitamin D on mental health. Even if it is still chilly, bundle you and your baby up and walk outside. The sun on your face makes such a difference and it is movement! If you read or sew, do that outside. Maybe you are a pickleball player, move from an indoor court to an outdoor court. Eat a nutritious meal on a patio. Go for a drive- you can get sun that way too(all of these yes, even driving in the car) make sure you are wearing sunscreen.
As we change seasons, what changes do you need to make for YOU? I bet you can come up with one. Set a goal- do one thing for yourself each day, even if only for five minutes. It is a step and a step is a step and as I always say “Progress not perfection!”
Happy Spring!
