Every Day is a Chance to Begin Again

We turn the calendar, we buy new planners, we set new goals, we aspire to change, we take a deep breath and say “Ready, Set, Go New Year’! And then something unexpected happens- and we feel defeated, especially if the unexpected occurs right away. So then we may lose track, stray off the course of those new goals we set. Then what happens? You got it- Mommy guilt, feeling like a failure, feeling like we will always “be this way.”  Does any of this sound painstakingly familiar?  Pshew, it sure does to me!

First and foremost, acknowledge it!  Acknowledge what did not come to fruition, acknowledge how that makes you feel, acknowledge that life sometimes gets in the way, acknowledge that you are human!

Secondly, adapt your goals if need be to what recent curveball you were thrown- remember it is about progress not perfection. If it were about perfection we have already set ourselves up to fail.

Lastly, be kind to yourself. Every day is a chance to begin again. Every day is a fresh start. Parents often say to their children maybe after a rough discipline day- “tomorrow is a new day.”  Extend yourself that same grace. Set realistic expectations. Make sure that what you set out to do is even a possibility.

Happy New Year!!!
