PMAD Psychotherapy in St. Louis:
I am excited to open a practice in the St. Louis area specializing in PMAD(Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders). I have said repeatedly during the pandemic that one of the only silver linings of COVID-19 is that we are actually talking about mental health now. It is rare to not hear mental health mentioned in the news these days. Overall mental health has been greatly impacted and perinatal mental health is no exception. Uncertainty is equivalent to fear and we all experience a great deal of uncertainty these days.
Many question if this is the time to begin thinking about getting pregnant. Those with fertility challenges may be struggling even more financially. If there is a pregnancy, appointments may have to be attended alone. Questions arise about whether using a doula will be allowed based on COVID numbers. Others worry about having to give birth alone. Families are in a rush to be discharged after delivery for fear of contracting COVID. Birth plans that may have been dreamt about some time may be altered. All of this to say, you are not alone. If you feel you are experiencing anxiety, symptoms, mood symptoms, or depressive symptoms, please do not hesitate to look for some help. Counselors with training/certification in PMAD's would likely be the best fit. Realizing you could use some help and then ultimately reaching out is the first and often hardest step. Call today!
